  • Jaqui and Ian Phillips (16 March 2008) We stayed at the FP two over the weekend of 1-2 March 2008. The location was excellent (near to a tram stop from the Central Station) and within an easy walk to some great shops and restaurants.

Claudia made us very welcome and the room was huge with good facilities such as open fire and steam shower. It was also quiet and comfortable.

Breakfast is delivered to your door - great selection of bread, pastries, cheese, meat, jam - and Claudia is so attentive that she noticed we weren't eating all the breads - so changed the delivery to include boiled egg and yoghurt.

Nice little touches like fresh tulips in the room, a great supply of DVD's, CD's and an iPod, and really good toiletries made the whole experience very special

  • Ben from Belfast (13 February 2008) The Flying Pancake is an excellent place to stay, if you are looking for a treat in Amsterdam. My girlfriend and I were looking for a boutique hotel in A'dam for two nights, as we don't like the Marriott-style chains when staying for leisure. We found the FP and were delighted with the whole experience. What we liked: great location - beautiful house with Dutch character - Claudia the perfect host - breakfast - space - luxuriously equipped room.

  • LagunaSteve (09 February 2008) Great location to everything in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms are like apartments with first class amenities. I would have expected to pay a lot more for the experience.

  • GrandDude (30 January 2008) My wife and I stayed at the Flying Pancake for an extended weekend with our adult daughter earlier this month. The Flying Pancake is small, comprised of two suites that occupy the second (Captain's suite) and third (Cook's suite) floors of a beautifully restored historic 18th century home located in a charming, quiet neighborhood outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Amsterdam. Yet TFP is close enough to every single attraction of note that we found taxis and even the trams were completely unnecessary. We walked everywhere. My wife and I stayed in the Captain's suite, our daughter in the other. Each suite is roomy, with its own steam shower, kitchenette area, and sitting area with fireplace. The comfort of the rooms is matched only by the gracious and enthusiastic support of TFP's proprietress, Claudia Veldkamp. Don't miss the opportunity to sit down with her upon arrival (or any time during your stay) to ask for suggestions, or simply to review the map for the location of attractions you plan to visit. Our experience at The Flying Pancake seemed more a visit to the home of friends than merely a stay at a hotel - a unique experience well beyond our already heightened expectations.

  • Wig06 (27 January 2008) We stayed in the top suite in dec. 07, which is spacious and of a very good quality. TFP is more like an apartment rather than a B&B, so it feels private and homely. The shower / steam room was great and there are lots of other touches as already mentioned. Claudia is very helpful and allowed us to store baggage on our last day. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend to others.

  • Miss_DLondon (05 January 2008) I had a really lovely time staying at the flying pancake b&b, it was beautifully furnished, the steam-shower with eucalyptus scent very luxurious! Claudia the host was very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Located on a quiet road, it was so relaxing and peaceful. Breakfast was left outside our room each morning, wrapped up inside a basket, which meant you could get up and have your breakfast completely at your leisure.
We found that we chose the coldest time of year to go! and so the brilliant collection of romantic comedy dvds, the fact that there was an ipod player and fireplace meant that we could have a very cosy night in without feeling that we were missing out on the Amsterdam nightlife.
We very much hope to stay again at the flying pancake.

  • John Bullen (02 January 2008) My first visit to beautiful Amsterdam this past summer was enhanced by choosing to stay at The Flying Pancake. This is one of the most unique B&B's I have ever experienced, and it gave me a flavor of Dutch hospitality no hotel could ever come close to matching. The location is well within walking distance to the City Centrum, but far enough away to not be right in the middle of the noise and hustle of the city. The Cook's Apartment was clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and I felt I had my own apartment/suite rather than 'just a room.' This will certainly be a 'do again' for me when I next come back to Amsterdam. (Soon, I hope!)

    Thanks Claudia!!

  • Alan Wells (14 December 2007) If you are looking for something that's a bit different, close to the centre of Amsterdam, and a real experience, you must try The Flying Pancake.
The two suites are just brilliant, so well appointed, spacious and comfortable.
The breakfast, which arrives at you door in a basket all beautifully presented with fresh fruit, bread, cold meat etc etc, is pure delight - like opening a wonderful hamper full goodies.
The room is spacious and modern looking out over the surrounding street scene, typically Dutch, interesting and within a few minutes walk of shops, museums etc. There is plenty to occupy guests with music CD's and DVD's and a well-stocked tray of different drinks. And the shower/steam room is a wonderful way to start your day.
And the family are a delight with a warm and friendly welcome. It wold be difficult to ask for more or find anywhere better.

  • SueFrance (08 October 2007) The Flying Pancake really deserves its excellent Trip Advisor rating. Claudia was extremely helpful and charming. She even lent us a laptop so that we could check in on-line for our flights home. Everything in the flat is of top quality, e.g. Bang&Olufsen Hi-Fi, Bose docking station for iPod. The sheets in particular were so good that I might have to buy some for home. We stayed in the top flat and friends stayed in the one below. This was an ideal arrangement for friends, as each couple are close but independent. After a day you don't even notice the steep stairs. It's in a pleasant quiet location near to a no.9 tram stop and plenty of good restaurants. Breakfast delivered to your door, what could be better?

  • SammyFinland (25 September 2007) We stayed at the Flying Pancake for four nights and our holiday was perfect. Really nice and quiet B&B Hotel with noble service and top-quality equipments.

  • ZagrebGizm (20 September 2007) This was our 2nd stay at The Flying Pancake and we have already booked our third! It always feels like coming back home, with Claudia and family there to welcome us with warmth and make sure we have all we need and more! Spacious, elegant suites, full of character and furnished with great taste, offer so much more that a bland hotel room. Claudia and the family make wonderful hosts and I can't wait to return! Thank you for all and we will surely keep coming back as often as possible!

  • PPsage Gibraltar (13 August 2007) We have just returned from a stay at The Flying Pancake. The rooms are magnificent, beautifully designed and service is excellent. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel to venture out when it began to rain.
Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in on holiday!

  • Susane (18 February 2007) Great place to stay when visiting Amsterdam. Comfortable and nicely decorated spacious rooms with steam baths (we loved that, great to relax after long days of sightseeing) in a typical historic canal home. Much more interesting and pleasant than staying at a hotel and private. Claudia, the hostess, was very welcoming to our needs and extremely nice. I highly recommend it.

  • AlwaysTravelFun (20 September 2006) The best B&B I've ever stayed in. Room was like your own studio - bed, dining area, fireplace, sitting area, little kitchen and wonderful bathroom with a steam shower. Breakfast was at your door every morning with fresh breads, cheeses and meats. Good selection of DVD's were provided which was great after a day of walking miles through Amsterdam. Claudia was a great hostess - called us taxi and provided maps and an early breakfast on the day we left. Would definitely stay here again.
